The Awesome 701

I don't know where to start with this bike, it amazes me. It has had a lot of mods to make it easier and more comfortable to me ride.
The most obvious things are the screen, seat and bars. Seat Concepts supplied the seat that I covered myself. Mario at Twalcom supplied the screen and lights, there is a frame mount version coming out which I may well try. The bars are from Fasst Co in the states, they are amazing and reduce any hand pain to nothing, they also absorb any shocks before they get to my shoulder.

Screen works well and uses LED lights that use less power to leave more free power for my heated clothing.

The flex bars, these really help the shoulder.

And the really helps with the comfort

As it came straight off the lorry
And as it is now.
A big thank you must go out to John at Rally Raid UK,his devotion to bikes is relentless, he developed the Tractive hydraulic preload adjuster on my bike and has provided it with the Rally sump guard, crash bars and sprocket guard to name but a few. Most mods are practical either making the bike lighter, stronger or more comfortable, there are a few bits of bling but not many.

The Next Stage

Taking a bit of a gamble now, decided to order a Rade Garage auxillary fuel tank, done a 540mile ride to a mates wedding and I felt my fuel range needed improving. This tank adds nearly 6litres of fuel too where the airbox goes, Rade supplies a K&N filter to replace the air intake and the tank takes up the remaining space, this will give me over 200miles without the 2.5litres in the sump tank, taking it easy 300miles would be possible to empty.

Not happy about running a high flow air filter without remapping so I have ordered a Power commander 5 to correct the fuel mixture, it comes loaded with a map set for a similar set up as I have, wings exhaust and open filter. Should be here over the next few days, I have already removed the airbox so waiting in anticipation.

Well fitted the Rade tank and PC5, pretty straightforward to be honest, hardest thing was taking the old air-box out but now its out will make servicing a lot easier. Put the PC5 on and the bike produces amazing power now, mental midrange. The only problem was cold starting as it turned over a few more times than normal. Dynojet sent some more maps, the first was imcompatible so I modded the one they sent me by adding some more fuel where they suggested, this seemed ok but they then sent me another map with some more adjustments this time including ignition timing, the bikes lower and mid range improved again but it does pop a lot on over run, I have emailed dyne jet to see what they say and while waiting have reduced some of the fuel going in at zero tps, I'm hoping this will stop the popping but still keep the awesome bottom end. We will see, only one more day then I leave for France and Germany on a road tour.

The tank adds nearly 6 litres, very handy indeed.

Not keen on the alloy cap, Rade is sending me a plastic one like I have on the rear tank along with a carbon key cover, this is a prototype version until the new one arrives.

Well the 701 has moved on another notch, fitted the Rottweiler performance SAS removal kit, quite straight forward and loses over a kilo in weight as well of nothing but fresh air in the engine. Also it gives me more room for the hydraulic preload adjuster.

Removed the Lambda sensor as well as this is now redundant do to the PC5.
